All Star Rewind—with Yolanda McCarthy: Episode #10
March 11, 2012—Denver, CO—It’s time, Project Runway friends for another edition of All Stars Rewind! Two more nail biting weeks left in the competition!
The challenge that the designers faced this week was to design a ready-to-wear look within budget for the fabulous Nanette Lepore! The winning dress would be sold in Nanette’s boutique with 100% of the profits going to the Save the Garment Center. What a generous and amazing opportunity!
Mondo was not able to attend the viewing party at the Beauty Bar; however, he recorded a welcome announcement for the audience and the video kicked off the evening. As in all of the other weeks, we had yummy treats courtesy of popchips and vitamin water. Additionally, throughout the evening, several lucky crowd members received prizes from the Mondo merchandise stand. Yes, Kelly Shortandqueer was a winner, once again, this week! How lucky is that guy?
Mondo struggled with this week’s challenge which clearly concerned many of the viewers; however, everyone let out a collective sigh of relief (followed by a loud round of cheers and applause!) when he was announced the challenge winner!! On to the finale!
This week, Team Mondo, along with popchips, SEE Eyewear and Stella and Dot sponsored another scavenger hunt (we had much better weather than the last hunt!) Two lucky winners won great prize packages and one additional winner won 2 passes to the upcoming Mondo Bazaaro! finale party!
Speaking of the finale party, make sure and check Mondo’s Facebook Event page for information regarding when the tickets to this fun-filled and celebratory event become available! We’re going to party regardless of the outcome so it’s an event that you won’t want to miss!
Finally, make sure and join us next week for the final viewing party at Beauty Bar Denver! As always, bring your friends and meet new ones at Mondo’s All Star Thursdays!
See you next week!
Your girl,
Yolanda McCarthy

All Star Rewind—with Yolanda McCarthy: Episode #5
February 5, 2012—Denver, CO—Hello, my fellow Project Runway pals! It’s your girl Yolanda back for another All Stars Rewind for week 5 of Project Runway All Stars. This week had the designers begging strangers for the clothes off their backs—literally! Using whatever means necessary, the All Stars had to “charm the pants off” their design muses.

Mondo's Winning Repurposed Design
It was an action-packed evening last week at Beauty Bar Denver for Mondo’s All Star Thursdays and in the spirit of this week’s challenge, there were two very special guest event partners in attendance: Goodwill Industries of Denver and Maclovia. Mondo also judged a repurposed look contest using his shirt designs from LoveMondoTrasho.com!
Goodwill Denver was on hand to collect clothing donations and enter guests into a drawing for a pair of tickets to the Good Exchange Clothing Swap and Fashion Show.
Goodwill Denver welcomes Mondo back for a second year as judge for their event on Feb 8, 2012. Fellow judges this year include Colorado Project Runway alums, Fallene Wells & Julie Tierney from season 9.
It’s a night of fun, fashion, & fabulous finds with a re-purposed runway show featuring the designs of local students in Goodwill Denver’s youth programs. Mondo had the opportunity to mentor the young designers at his alma mater, Denver School of the Arts.
Mondo shared, “It’s like a full-circle moment for me because I started out my experience in fashion by going to thrift stores—like Goodwill—buying something, and then re-purposing it for myself. It’s where I learned how to create looks from a mix of options, and now, I’m encouraging future designers to have fun and get creative. It feels good!”
During the evening’s re-purposed t-shirt contest, nine contestants rose to the challenge, but only two claimed victory: Kyle & Sara! The crowd was thrilled with their creative, fun, and Mondo-licious designs. Congrats, girls!
(Speaking of LoveMondoTrasho tees, did anybody notice the Mondo by Maryellen design cameo in this week’s episode? Yay!)
A couple of handsome and gracious gentlemen took the spirit of the evening to a new level and removed the clothes off their backs to model the latest designs from Denver men’s underwear company, Maclovia. Matt Riley & Robbie Neuman of Prime Talent flexed and entertained the crowd in Maclovia’s finest.
Still, the biggest rush of the evening came with the announcement of Mondo’s much deserved win. Mondo’s reaction . . . “Finally!” J
To close the evening’s viewing, Mondo shared a Skype conversation recorded with his muse—Grace.
Guests were invited to get up close and personal with the Prime models in a Maclovia photo booth courtesy of Jeff Ball photography. Mondo met fans and signed merchandise before treating a few guest to his best runway stomp. Work it, Mondo!
This week, Jerell Scott makes a special guest appearance for a faceoff between all the senses. Wanna join us? Get the details when they drop at facebook.com/lovemondo!

Cantaloupe Magazine
In episode 4 of Project Runway All Stars, the designers were challenged to create a tasteful outfit inspired by the colors and flavors of a equally tasteful dessert . . . gelato!
In keeping with the theme of the challenge, Mondo’s All Star Thursdays welcomed Amore Gelato as a guest sponsor. As a special treat for the viewing crowd on Thursday, Amore Gelato created a flavor called “Mondo Melon” as a nod to the gelato flavor he chose for the challenge.
Mondo said, “I’m gonna have my cantaloupe and eat it too!”
Back to the episode–if the gelato-inspired theme wasn’t difficult enough, the designers’ abilities were further tested by the 6-hour time frame they had within which to create their design. This was the shortest challenge in Project Runway history!
When Diane Von Furstenburg was introduced during the program, Michael C. was just as excited at the viewing event as he was during the show. It was clear that DVF was just as excited with Michael as she told him during his judges review, “Michael, you gotta call me after the show!” I wonder if he has…?!
Jerell Scott’s comment about Mondo’s dress was that it “embodied the feel of cantaloupe but in a modern abstract way.” When Mondo saw his dress come down the runway, he said “My mouth waters for a slice of cantaloupe!” In the end, Michael Costello was deemed the winner of the challenge while April Johnston was sent home.
Make sure and join us next week at Mondo’s All Stars Thursdays at Beauty Bar Denver! There will be the re-purposed t-shirt contest as well as a number of other fun surprises.
Also – be sure and mark your calendar to attend a special event on February 16. The guest for the evening, will be none other than the fabulous Peach Carr and there will be a live and silent auction with all proceeds to go the Colorado Aids Project Denver region.
See you next Thursday!
The Beauty Bar is located at 608 East 13th Avenue Denver, CO 80203 and the doors open at 6:00 pm.
